Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
My teaser is taken from Alice and the Fly by James Rice. My friend and I have started a book-club and this is our first read. Perhaps we should have begun on a more positive note but the morbidness is growing on us!
Here is my teaser:
And even if I didn't smile back at you at the time, imaginarily or realitarily, it didn't really matter, because even through my sickness and my shaking and my headaches and my chattering teeth I kept smiling for the next three days. (18%)
Today was one of my bad days. One of my neck-rubbing collar-brushing goose-pimpling web-tickling shaking kind of days. One of those days when every time I close my eyes - every time I even blink - I see Them, hundreds of Them, massing in my head.
Synopsis:
This is a book about phobias and obsessions, isolation and dark corners. It's about families, friendships, and carefully preserved secrets. But above everything else it's about love. Finding love - in any of its forms - and nurturing it.
Miss Hayes has a new theory. She thinks my condition's caused by some traumatic incident from my past I keep deep-rooted in my mind. As soon as I come clean I'll flood out all these tears and it'll all be ok and I won't be scared of Them anymore. The truth is I can't think of any single traumatic childhood incident to tell her. I mean, there are plenty of bad memories - Herb's death, or the time I bit the hole in my tongue, or Finners Island, out on the boat with Sarah - but none of these are what caused the phobia. I've always had it. It's Them. I'm just scared of Them. It's that simple.

Thank you too!
DeleteThis is the second time I've seen this book today - it sounds chilling.
ReplyDeleteMy Teaser this week
It is definitely intense!
DeleteHow interesting, and also creepy. I thought maybe the person was sick until you got to the "them in my head" part. That definitely piqued my interest!
ReplyDeleteHere are My Teasers.
Very creepy!
DeleteHaven't seen this book before. Sounds potentially creepy good. My Teaser is from The Cursed by Heather Graham
ReplyDeleteI am enjoying it lots and lots! Thanks for your comment.
DeleteI'm getting more and more curious about this one. I spotted it on another blog today too.

Surprisingly, it is actually a He! When I first started this book I thought the POV was from a female character too.
DeleteSounds like a really intense book. I hope I'm brave enough to read it.
ReplyDeleteIt's not scary but more creepy and is quite thought-provoking.
DeleteThis book is so fascinatingly morose and, at times, witty, that I can’t seem to put it down! I’m completely shocked to find I’m really concerned about the protagonist. It really is wonderfully written. Highly recommend! :)
ReplyDeleteOoh, how far have you gotten in the book?
DeleteI'm like Marsha and have seen this book around. Thanks for the teasers.
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting!
DeleteThe book seems a little heavy, but the teasers aren't really morbid.
ReplyDeleteI agree, it's more heavy (and creepy) than morbid.
DeleteVery curious who THEM is. My big them is spiders. I hate the creepy crawlies. LOL Thanks for stopping by my blog.
ReplyDeleteHa! I think you may share the same 'them' after all...
DeleteInteresting teasers. I'm not sure this would be the book for me. I hope you are enjoying it. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteI most certainly am, have a good day (:
DeleteNice teasers! A book about phobias would definitely be intense. Hope you enjoy and thank you for stopping by. :)
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome and thank you!
DeleteGreat teaser! Sounds intriguing to say the least :)
ReplyDeleteYup, it is! Have a good day.

ReplyDeleteWhat did you think of it, Cleo?
DeleteThank you for visiting my TT. But your TT is really interesting. I think I'm going to add this book to my TBR pile!
ReplyDeleteLet me know if you do, I would love to heard what you thought of it.
DeleteThis definitely sounds different, Zed! I hope the phobias aren't making you feel the same way as the character does... the writing is very vivid in your teasers.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!

The author freaked me out at times, especially when the main character was having one of his episodes :S
DeleteI've seen this around :) Great pick!
